A “Road Map” is a guide that shows us how to reach our end goal. Technology Planning results in a “Road Map” to business technology solutions for your organization.
Technology planning, or a Master Technology Plan, will include standards, specifications, budgets and timelines to refresh or replace nonperforming technology. As technology and the needs of the organization change and evolve this plan is updated on a regular basis, usually annually.
Technology planning must also include the Business Continuity Plan and the Disaster Recovery Plan. Business Continuity Plans (BCP) are sometimes referred to as Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP) and the two have much in common. However, a DRP should be oriented towards recovering after a disaster whereas a BCP shows how to continue doing business until recovery is accomplished. Both are very important and are often combined into a single document for convenience.
